SIR ANDREW PARMLEY
ALDERMAN

Sir Andrew Parmley MusM, PhD, Hon FGS, studied music at the Royal Academy of Music and at Manchester, London and Cambridge Universities. He entered the teaching profession as Director of Music at Forest School, South Hampstead High School and the Grey Coat Hospital in Westminster. He is currently Principal of the Senior School at The Harrodian School.

He was elected as a Common Councilman for Vintry Ward in 1992. In 2001 he was elected Alderman for Vintry Ward. He served as Sheriff in 2014-15. In 2016 he was elected as the 689th Lord Mayor of City of London.

He has served on the following City of London committees and boards: the Policy & Resources Committee, the Finance Committee, the City Lands & Bridge House Estates Committee, the Establishment Committee, the Port Health & Environmental Services Committee, the  Guildhall School of Music & Drama (Chairman 2003-06), the Barbican Centre, and the City of London School for Girls (Chairman 2001-03).

He is a member of the Vintners’ Company (Renter Warden), the Musicians’ Company (Master 2011-12), the Glass Sellers’ Company (Master 2013-14), the Joiners & Ceilers’ Company (Court Assistant), the Water Conservators’ Company (Hon. Liveryman), the Horners’ Company (Hon. Freeman), the Parish Clerks’ Company (Master 2006-07), the Educators’ Company (Hon. Freeman) and several other companies.

He has been the Organist at St James Garlickhythe Church, and to many livery companies.

Outside the City, he has been involved with the Montessori St Nicholas Charity (Chairman 2007-14), the Leukaemia Research Fund, the Multiple Sclerosis Society, and the Jonas Foundation.
